New York Jewish Film Festival taking place at Lincoln Center from January 1 – 22, 2019 presents a Czech historical drama directed by Ondřej Trojan. The screenings will be followed by Q&A with the director. The New York Jewish Film Festival features two screenings (January 9th, 2019 at 12:30 am and January 10th, 2019 at 8:30pm) of a Czech film Toman at the Lincoln Center. Toman (2018, directed by Ondřej Trojan) follows the incredible lifestory of Zdeněk Toman, an ambiguous historical character that crucially shaped the development of post-war Czechoslovakia. As an unscrupulous businessman and a slick political strategist, Toman was entitled with fund raising for the Communist election campaign during the dark years of Third Republic between 1945 and 1948. That mission was to be accomplished by fair means or foul and Toman, rising as the head of Czechoslovak intelligence, inevitably had to be drawn to his fall.
