BLUES BY THE BEACH
Directed by Joshua Faudem
2004, 75 min., documentary
“This is
a very, very important film. It ranks, along with ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER as an actual, undeniable presentation of the
unmitigated horror of terrorism. Terrorism is the directed, purposeful taking
of innocent life for supposedly political purposes. Innocent life is innocent
life – at the World Trade Center or in Tel Aviv –its extinction is an act of
bestiality. To which fact this film bluntly and incontestably testifies.” David Mamet
Synopsis:
“When New York filmmaker and freelance journalist Jack Baxter travels
to Israel he’s looking for the right story to document, but he quickly becomes
part of the story at Mike’s Place, a live music bar in Tel-Aviv. Enamoured with
the intercultural mix and the American Blues style music, Baxter teams up with
bartender/filmmaker Joshua Faudem and begins filming Mike’s Place. However, a
suicide bomber quickly shatters the peaceful atmosphere and the film takes a
personal turn into the lives of the survivors. The result of this collaborative
effort is a film that resonates with recovery, perseverance, and hope.”
