Here, children rebel against grownups that have been planning to convert a dilapidated castle that shelters a company of ghosts into a profitable co-operative enterprise. Love has the last laugh, though, as the daughter of the castle’s humourless ghost proprietor is transformed into a real live girl. A soundtrack full of excellent songs, and an exquisite job done by the special-effects team complements the film’s sunshiny atmosphere. The sweet and tender Leontyne was played by Dana Vávrová, who has since become a star of German cinema and the wife of director Joseph Vilsmaier.

Two rabbits, one named Bob and one named Bobby, are travelling the world in a magician’s hat. Never knowing where their strange mode of transport will take them to next, our heroes are thrust into the wacky world of humans. Here they have to deal with countless obstacles put in their path as they strive to help all those they meet along the way at the same time having a great deal of fun themselves.

He has some good friends in Hubert and Jožka, but his interest seems to be branching out toward the beautiful Blanka. In the meantime, some local baddies are planning on cleaning out a local credit union...at least if the boys will leave the ladders alone long enough to give them a chance to break in!

August 12, Three Nuts for Cinderella / Tři Oříšky pro Popelku

Year of production : 1973

Directed by : Václav Vorlíček
Screenplay : Bohumila Zelenková, Václav Vorlíček

Dirty-faced and scorned by everyone, the heroine of this story is transformed into a beautiful young lady who awakens the prince’s love. The surprising metamorphosis is due largely to the fulfilment of three wishes hidden in as many hazelnuts. One of the most popular Czech screen fairy-tales is set in a gloomy, snow-covered countryside. An exceptionally accomplished box-office hit, it features an international cast including several well-known German actors. The theme tune and song, performed by Czech pop star Karel Gott, has kept returning every year as a major hit of the Christmas season in the heart of Europe.

An animated puppet series dealing with some unexpected aspects of do it yourself. Pat and Mat are not only pals and next-door neighours of many years, what draws them to each other more than anything else is their common lifelong passion for doing things themselves. Whenever it comes down to making, mending or streamlining anything, they are in their element. There´s a hitch to it, though: namely, not everything they set out to do goes always according to plan. How, then, do the ham-fisted fellows cope with the various problems they encounter? (www.patmat.cz)
