Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín tells the story of the courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt concentration camp who performed the celebrated Verdi Requiem while experiencing the depths of human degradation. With only a single smuggled score, they performed the famous oratorio 16 times, with conductor Rafael Schächter telling the choir, "We will sing to the Nazis what we cannot say to them." By allocating all proceeds from Defiant Requiem to the Community Initiative for Holocaust Survivors, we will keep our promise to never forget and never abandon those who survived.
Created and Directed by Maestro Murry Sidlin
The performance features Bebe Neuwirth, John Rubinstein, Jennifer Check, Ann McMahon Quintero, Steven Tharp, Wilhelm Schwinghammer, and The Collegiate Chorale.
