The exhibition will focus on historical context of the revolution as well as explain the circumstances under which the Communist Party initially took power. A set of illustrations by well renowned young Czech artistic duo Tomski and Polanski will take you on a stroll through historical development of the Czechoslovakia from the end of the WWII. It will explain in detail the hardships Czechoslovakia went through right up until its amicable split in 1993.

A timeline of the historical events will give visitors the desired context of events leading up to the demonstrations with emphasis on development in bordering countries. Complemented by original radio and TV footage, the exhibition will give its visitors an insight into the revolutionary movement and will also explain the importance of figures such as Václav Havel, Alexander Dubček or even Šimon Pánek.

This overall insight into the minds and lives of everyday people who lived in Czechoslovakia, as well as to the minds and lives of political representatives, whether those who seized the power along the Communist Party lines or those who rose to power with the revolution, is one of a kind experience you cannot miss.

The opening night will be introduced by the Czech Center New York director, Miroslav Konvalina with Her Excellency, Mrs. Marie Chatardová, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations in New York. The main speakers for the opening night will be the director of the National Museum of the Czech Republic, Michal Lukeš, and the Deputy for Central Collection-building and Exhibition Activity, historian Michal Stehlík.

The Illustration of the exhibition was executed by Tomski&Polanski artistic duo. Tomski&Polanski are gaining lots of traction in recent years in the Czech Republic with their work appearing on book covers (incl. Czech translation of new Tom Hanks book), socks, plates, covers of well known sweets and of course on posters. Both of them have their unique style that complements their respective work - with very specific bright color illustration their work is easily recongnizible even by those who don't follow the Czech art scene.
