MARIAN (1996, 109min), dir. Petr Václav. The title character, a Roma boy Marian, was taken away in the late 1970s from his parents and put in a children's home. They were judged by the Communist system as unfit to raise him. Unable to find lasting meaningful relationships, Marian is sent from institution to institution and his bottled up feelings demonstrate in aggression. He soon learns what jail looks like from the inside. At the age of 22 and jailed again, his life seems to have no future. The film is a sensual and a visual treat from director Petr Václav whose every film since his first MADAME LE MURIE is an occasion.

Film Club video series are organized in cooperation with Irena Kovářová.
