Upon the occasion of his solo show at the Czech Center (April 15-May 12, 2009), František Skála will present his work along with his latest publication, a unique comic book featuring over 300 photographs.

František Skála must understand his work as the creativity of nature itself, manipulated by man: most of his creations are transmutations of natural objects and the recipe he uses is a mixture of humor and seriousness, irony and respect, monumentality and a fine sensitivity. Apart from sensitive communication with nature, his work, nevertheless, also reflects other areas of the life of man, such as, for example, the production and processing of plastic; with a touch of irony, it also proves sensitivity for emphasizing the color, light, shape and material qualities of the collected found objects and their unexpected combinations. He places man’s utilitarian products within the context of new stories and, by stepping out of the area of practicality and usefulness into the realm of “purpose-free” aesthetics, he reveals a view into the mysterious interrelations of human fates.
