GLEN HANSEN: PRAHA

March 16 – April 15

Fischbach Gallery, 210 Eleventh Avenue, New York, NY

The Fischbach Gallery presents Praha, an exhibition of recent paintings by Glen Hansen, opening March 16 and continuing through April 15, 2006.

Working in a precisionist style, the paintings of Glen Hansen often capture architectural

obscurities. Combining the elements of man and nature with the skilled hand of a surgeon,

Hansen creates the sublime from the mundane. Hansen has envisioned paintings of skies, street clocks, and architectural details. Praha, a series of paintings, represents the artist’s fascination with Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, where he spent extensive time studying the city’s historical structures. Making multiple observational trips, Hansen sketched and photographed this historical city and observed its unique quality of light and timeless beauty. The subject of several paintings is the Orloj, the city’s medieval

astronomical clock. Using dramatic shadows, angles, and color, these paintings echo the

power and magic of this ancient structure, which has kept accurate time for over six

centuries.
