Rail Yard Blues & Gorilla

The first episode of an entirely new evening series, "Martin Dvorak presents," will introduce the work of the Czech film director Pavel Göbl and the scriptwriter Rene Levinsky (aka Helmut Kuhl) . Two movies of the duo will be presented, followed by a discussion with Levinsky.

Rail Yard Blues/Ještě žiju s věšákem, plácačkou a čepicí (2006, 87 min.)
If, as David Byrne once suggested, "heaven is a place where nothing ever happens," then "Rail Yard Blues" is close to Czech nirvana. This deliberate, contemplative rural ensembler - a genre that never seems to go out of style in this part of the world - is a leading contender to rep the Czech Republic at international festivals, arthouses and sell-through. (Eddie Cockrell, Variety, 04/27/2006).

Gorilla/Gorila (2011, 65 min.)
It is not correct to call this piece just satirical, I do perceive a great drama in it. It is an excellent reflection of the immense disease of the present days: a disease whose symptoms are the highest professionalism on the one hand, combined with vague sectarianism serving the darkest ideas on the other. (Milan Uhde, Czech playwright).
