Persecution of Czechs and Slovaks in Soviet Labor Camps

Lecture by Adam Hradilek, Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes

Names like Auschwitz or Treblinka are a synonym for the millions of innocent victims of Nazi regime. How many people, with the exception of few survivors and schollars know names like Vorkutlag, Norillag, Uchtijemlag - the major camps in the Soviet represive GULAG system?

Nonetheless, hundreds of thousands thousands of Europeans, including Czechs, went through these camps, in which millions of people died between 1934 - 1960. For last several years the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in Prague is gathering testemonies of last survivors and collecting biographies of the victims.

Adam Hradilek, the researcher at the Institute, is going to present the history of Czech experience with the labor camps in Soviet Union including sevral personal acounts of the survivors.
