Hitchhikers & Motormorphosis

THEATER. Untitled Theater Company #61 presents two short plays by Václav Havel.

Originally written in the 1960's for Ivan Vyskočil (though never performed) these plays have only been recently been rediscovered.

Motormorphosis received its world premiere in 2006 as part of the Havel Festival, in a puppet production by Evolve Company.  That full production will be presented again for the first time since the festival.  Hitchhikers, which will be presented as a staged reading, has been newly translated by Edward Einhorn, and this will be the first ever English language presentation of the play.

Both plays employ the absurdist sensibilities Havel would later become famous for; in Hitchhikers two elderly ladies look to find adventure by hitchhiking for the first time, while Motormorphosis parodies Czech society's transformative lust for cars.

Motormorphosis is translated by Carol Rocamora.
