Hops Pickers
Starci na chmelu (1964, 89 min.), dir. Ladislav Rychman
Tuesday, August 6, BNH roof opens at 7pm

Ladislav Rychman was principally known as the director of music films and musicals, psychological stories, criminal movies and comedies. He filmed famous Czechoslovak musical comedies Starci na chmelu (The Hop Pickers 1964) and Dáma na kolejích (Lady on the Tracks 1966).

The Hop Pickers is a Czech New Wave classic; a musical comedy about group of students picking hops over the summer under school supervision dealing with adolescent morality and bureaucracy. This movie is a fresh, optimistic Czech immortal legend.

Czech That Film, sponsored by Staropramen, is organized by the Czech Center in collaboration with the Consulates General of the Czech Republic in Chicago and Los Angeles in cooperation with the Gene Siskel Film Center and UCLA Film Television.
