Thursday Forum: A Talk with a Composer

Czech composer Jiří Kadeřábek will present his piece "Milena" for female voice and chamber ensemble, inspired by the personality of Milena Jesenská.

Besides fragments of Jesenská's articles and various texts about her, the piece also includes numerous fabrications which, however, come out of reality. Musically complex work, including micro-tones, directed improvisations, voiceband and theater elements, gained a great acceptance at its premiere at the Noorderzon Festival in Groningen in 2014 as well as at following performances in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. www.jirikaderabek.com.  There will be a discussion with the composer after his presentation.

Jiří Kadeřábek will be joining us the day before his piece “Hindyish” is premiered at Spectrum, 121 Ludlow Street Fl.2 New York, NY on Friday, Sept 25th 7pm. In this program, pianist David Kalhous presents a collection of miniatures and character pieces from the Baroque to the present. Showing the vast technical and expressive range of the piano, the program features highly virtuosic music of Scarlatti, Ligeti, and Jiří Kadeřábek (world premiere), juxtaposed with expressionistic and emotionally driven works by Chopin, Janáček, Kurtág, and Michael Vincent Waller (world premiere).

We are honored to have Kadeřábek join us for an in depth discussion prior to his world premiere in NYC.
