Part of the CZECH THAT FILM Festival. Krásno, dir. Ondřej Sokol, 2014, 119min, English subtitles.

This black comedy by Ondřej Sokol, the actor and TV/theatre director, has taken the viewers by surprise. This film is based on real life events. At the start of the film the main protagonists - Adam (played by the director himself) and Michal (Martin Finger who co-wrote the screenplay) return to their rural hometown, Šumperk, for a weekend. Michal is visiting his dying father with whom he does not have a good relationship. Michal blames his father for his mother’s mysterious death. The two men attend a school reunion and end up causing chaos after they get very drunk. The film then moves into a detective story genre when Michal starts to suspect that there is something suspicious about his mother’s death and he starts to investigate his mother in law as a possible suspect.

KRÁSNO is the name of the lake that plays a crucial role in the story.

FREE ADMISSION. Seating is on a first-come, fist-served basis.

What the critics said:
‘Although Krásno is undoubtedly a promising debut for Sokol, above all it marks the dawn of original and fresh productions’

‘The creators show a penchant for not only black, but also deadpan humour, a rare phenomenon in domestic productions. Internationally renowned Czech actor Karel Roden also delivers a tremendous performance in his supporting role as a caring undertaker.’ -Martin Kudláč –CINEUROPA

This festival, that takes place across the USA, is a colorful display of the Czech homelands modern achievements in film. This year’s films are exceptional. While their flavoring remains uniquely Czech, these movies will speak to everyone, young and old, American or Czech.
