ARTIST'S TALK: LUKÁŠ MACHALICKÝ

LECTURE, PRESENTATION OF GALERIE SPZ AND CATALOGUE "DO YOU JUMP QUEUES?"
LECTURE - JANUARY 19, 7PM in the Gallery
Lukáš Machalický is currently a resident artist at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York. He will present an artist talk about his
work, the gallery he co-founded called Galerie SPZ and the catalog
“Do you jump queues?” which he co-authored with Robert Šalanda.
Lukáš Machalický’s exhibitions can be read as essays that
thematically cover or wordlessly comment on diverse social phenomena without
confronting us, the viewers, with any explicit theses. They always have a
formal or architectural purity, and seemingly preclude any kind of spontaneity
or randomness. In contrast, deviations, balancing, duality and system failures
have a key role in this artist’s current work. Machalický’s installations are
often related to the topic of architecture, but rather in abstract way, not
literally. He concentrates on what lies in the background of a certain shape.
Among other things, he makes the exhibition design for many contemporary art
institutions.
Machalický’s exhibitions have a formal and architectural purity that seems to preclude any spontaneity or element of chance - but in fact deviations, volatility, ambiguity and system failure play a key role in this artist’s current work.
