2nd ANNUAL MEET CONTEMPORARY CZECH DESIGN exhibition

May 15 – September 15, 2008
New York City

Meet Contemporary Czech Design opens on May 15th, 2008 and will run through September 15th, 2008 in different locations throughout Manhattan. This spectacular exhibition features designers who refuse to be tied in by the conventions of traditional art. Whether their work is ultra-modern or utterly contemporary, all these artists are definitely attuned to their native Czech Republic for inspiration.

Porcelain, Glassworks, Accessories:

The exhibit debuts "Fresh Design", the artworks of the 3D design students of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The showcase speaks the language of style through porcelain and glass works, accessories, shoes and fashion pieces. This collection of young avant-garde designers also features works created under the artistic direction of distinguished architect Hana Maršíková.

"Fresh Design," is on view from May 15 to July 31 at the Czech Center New York. Opening reception will take place on May 15th at 6:30 pm, free and open to the public.

Graphic Design:

On May 15th, Meet Contemporary Czech Design will also honor award-winning graphic designers Tomáš Machek, Michal Richtr, Aleš Najbrt and Alan Záruba, who will present the exhibit  CI.CZ - Corporate Identity in the Czech Republic 1990 – 2007.

Today's designers must focus not only on manufacturing a functional product, but also must package and design it in a visually persuasive manner in order to create a deep desire for a brand. The intention of this project is to acquaint the public with successful corporate identity formation in the Czech Republic. The works include corporate logos and symbols of large companies, banks and financial institutions, non-profit organizations, cultural and social institutions, Czech towns and regions. The showcase runs for six weeks through June 30, 2008 at the Czech Center New York. www.cicz.eu

The project demonstrates glass and porcelain as fragile materials, but they are also pure and impeccable, and epitomize superior quality and beauty. This showcase, which consists of works that represent important moments in the history of Czech glasswork and porcelain, provokes tremendous emotional response among lovers of fine craftwork.
