Museum of Memories
New International Encounter (NIE) makes award-winning theatre performances through a mix of physical theatre, multiple languages, live music and storytelling with a European ensemble. Their production of Museum of Memories will run at the New Victory Theatre in January and is supported by Czech Center NY.
In January, Czech Center NY will focus on programs for children and the family. This production is particularly suitable for teenagers and their parents. This event takes place at The New Victory Theatre and tickets can be purchased from their website. http://newvictory.org
We cannot completely rely on our memories, and yet, there is no reality other than that we carry with us in memory. Every moment we live, gets their importance thanks to the past. Present and future would lose all meaning if the past was erased from our consciousness. Between ourselves, and nothing, is our ability to remember.
“Minutes, maybe hours of your own existence that you have forgotten, but I remember. You live a secret life in another person's memory”. Tor Ulven
He was a brother, a student, a neighbor and a first love. Seated amidst the rusty drawers that scale the walls of the MUSEUM OF MEMORIES, witness the beautiful and touching stories of a boy who took his own life and now lives on in the remembrances of others. Through a mix of physical theater, multiple languages and live music, the five ensemble members of NIE Theatre tenderly reconstruct his life. After the performance, explore the gallery and uncover hidden chronicles to reflect on the funny and intimate moments from this immediate, one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
This project explores true stories and accounts from people that have experienced suicide in their family. The project is a movable installation that is both an exhibition space and a space for the performance. The show opened on the 27th April 2012 on Tulinløkka, between The National Museum and The National Gallery in the heart of Oslo. The show is now touring both in Norway and internationally.
