Czech Center New York and BAMcinématek present the seventh annual film festival as part of the Czech Independence Day Celebrations.
An exceptionally strong group of five films brings to New York a very special guest, director Jan Švankmajer, who will speak with the audience after the screening of his latest feature film Lunacy. The second guest of the festival is Ivan Trojan, one of the best lead actors with great comic and dramatic abilities. He will accompany the screening of Petr Zelenka’s entertaining comedy Wrong Side Up based on the director’s own award winning theater play. The selection is rounded up by Bohdan Sláma’s great drama Something Like Happiness and two feature debuts: Shark in the Head by Mária Procházková, originally an animator who employs this technique in a life action film with Oldřich Kaiser in the lead role; and the newest film in the series, Dan Wlodarczyk’s Indian and the Nurse about an unlikely young couple – a man who spends his free time imitating the Native Americans and a Romany nurse.
The series was produced and co-curated by Irena Kovářová.
Czech Independence Day celebrations are organized by the Czech Center New York and would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors.
