Free of charge.

Five authors from Germany, Italy, France, Czech Republic, and Spain will read from their recent works in their own languages, followed by readings in English, and participate in a moderated panel discussion.

Hana Andronikova, Czech Republic, will read from Zvuk slunečních hodin [Sound of the Sundial, 2001]

Bruce Bégout, France, will read from L'éblouissement des bords de route [Roadside Dazzle, 2004]

Thomas Meinecke, Germany, will read from Hellblau [Light Blue, 2001]

Translated by Susan Bernofsky.

Sandro Veronesi, Italy, will read from Caos calmo [A Calm Chaos, 2005]

Translated by Michael Moore.

 

 

Authors will read short excerpts in the original language. English translations will be read by Jacqueline Chambord and Demosthenes Chrysan.

 

Hana Andronikova
Born in 1967 in Zlín, Hana Andronikova studied English and Czech literature at Charles University. Her first novel, Zvuk slunečních hodin [The Sound of the Sundial] (2001), was published to great acclaim, receiving the Book Club Literary Award in 2001 and the 2002 Magnesia Litera Award/Discovery of the Year category. This wide-ranging tale ranges from early 1920’s Zlín to 1930’s India to a Nazi concentration camp and contemporary America. Her collection of short stories, Srdce na udici [Heart on the Hook] (2002), confirmed her prominent position among the major names of contemporary Czech prose. Hana Andronikova lives in Prague.
