Nowhere In Moravia
This film screening is a part of the Summer on the Roof film serie.
NOWHERE IN MORAVIA - special screening
(Díra u Hanušovic), 2014, 102min, dir. M. Krobot, US premiere
Maruna (Tatiana Vilhelmova), a German teacher, now a pub owner, might never marry. The small village where she resides, does not have many suitable men; the indecisive mayor (Ivan Trojan) spends too much time in the wild waiting around for deer, a childishly naïve Olin (Jaroslav Plesl) is considered the harmless village idiot, and the tinsmith Kodl (Lukas Latinak) is a known skirt chaser. Maruna’s overbearing mother (Johanna Tesarova), who she and her sister Jaruna (Lenka Krobotova) take care of, just adds to her problems. When her sister, Jaruna takes the first chance to get out of the village alongside the German Hans to Munich, leaving Maruna in the “hell hole” alone with their mother and her suitors. Although one day, in Hanusovic something unexpected will happen.
It would be hard to imagine films without songs and music as they follow the cinematography from its beginning. The songs play a prominent role in transmitting deep emotion of love and joy but also despair or revolt in a unique way that touches, opens or break down boundaries. This year’s selection of rooftop films reflects various tendencies in the use of music and songs revealing the different moods in the 20th Century.
We invite you to join us in this exciting journey through images and sounds!
