March 13 – April 7

Czech Center New York

Opening Reception: March 13, 6:30 pm

This exhibition introduces New York to

the work of Oldřich Kulhánek, one of the most illustrious personalities of his generation, not only in the Czech Republic, but also abroad.

The importance of Oldřich Kulhánek’s work can be documented by the many prizes he has received at international art-exhibitions and biennales and with its inclusion in some of the world’s most renowned art collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago; the Library of Congress, Washington; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Albertina, Vienna; and the Bibliotheque Royale, Brussels. He has also lectured at several universities in the U.S. as a visiting professor. He created the designs of the new Czech Banknotes and has become one of the principal designers of Czech stamps. This commission included designing a stamp of the President of the Czech Republic,

Mr. Václav Klaus.
His last exhibition in the U.S. became one of the highlights of the festival “Prague Days in Chicago 2007”. It attracted not only a high number of visitors, but also the attention of the U.S. media. In a statement delivered
in the House of Representatives on the occasion of the Chicago exhibition, Hon. Rahm Emanuel, Member of Congress thanked Oldřich Kulhánek for his fine work and commitment to art and freedom of expression.
