Rebels - Summer on the Roof

This film screening is a part of Summer on the Roof film serie.

(Rebelove), 2001, 109 min, dir. Filip Renc

The story, set in 1968, the year of the Prague Spring and the Soviet invasion, features a planned escape to the West and the arrest of one of its central characters for desertion from the army. The main couple, Tereza and Šimon, struggles to enjoy the free spirit of the times in spite of the turbulent political circumstances.

It would be hard to imagine films without songs and music as they follow the cinematography from its beginning. The songs play a prominent role in transmitting deep emotion of love and joy but also despair or revolt in a unique way that touches, opens or break down boundaries. This year’s selection of rooftop films reflects various tendencies in the use of music and songs revealing the different moods in the 20th Century.

We invite you to join us in this exciting journey through images and sounds!
