Rooftop Ciné-Concerts Series: An Old Gangster's Molls
Live music: Audrey Vardanega & Sara Barone, 4 Hands Piano
The Czech Center 2015 ROOFTOP CINÉ-CONCERT SERIES final WRAP PARTY is set for the 25 August. It has been two glorious summer months of magical music and moving pictures.
For our final evening we will be transfixed by the 4-handed Piano concert by Audrey Vardanega and Sara Barone. After their concert, they will accompany the comedic silent film, An Old Gangster's Molls | Milenky starého kriminálníka.
The rooftop will again be transformed into a speakeasy of the roaring 20’s with flapper girls and swanky fellows in their best glad rags. Ladies, throw on a feather boa or a string of pearls, and Gents don a fedora, some oxford bags and a bow tie to get into the swing of things for this big wrap party finale. It’s your last chance to watch the sunset from this incredible rooftop and wave summer goodbye.
Audrey Vardanega, a nineteen-year-old pianist, composer, and rising junior at Columbia University was born and raised in Oakland, California. Audrey began formal piano training with acclaimed pianist Robert Schwartz at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 2002 to 2013 as well as formal composition training with Arkadi Serper at the Berkeley Crowden
School from 2004 to 2013. Audrey has appeared as a piano soloist with numerous orchestras including the Midsummer Mozart Festival Orchestra and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, among others. She currently studies piano with Seymour Lipkin and Maria Asteriadou and has plans to study Political Science abroad at the University College London this fall.
Sara Barone, a third year undergraduate music major at Columbia University, studied piano with Ya-Fei Chuang at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division for seven years before coming to New York. Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Sara has performed in many concerts in the New England area, as well as in festivals abroad—most specifically, at the University Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Austria for six consecutive summers. Additionally, she has played in numerous master classes, including those of Ya-Fei Chuang, Robert Levin, Michael Stern, and Larry Rachleff. Currently, Sara studies composition with Christopher Ruenes, as well as jazz voice with Christine Correa, and hopes to pursue film scoring in the future.
These two young talented pianists will accompany the silent film, An Old Gangster's Molls | Milenky starého kriminálníka, together. This 1927 gem, directed by Svatopluk Innemann, is another in our ‘Fallen Women’ series and is a crazy slapstick comedy about the factory owner, Mr. Pardon and his uncle, Mr. Monday who swap their identities and invent incredible stories to escape marriage and be with their beloveds.
