Exhibition at the Czech Center will introduce the work of three contemporary artists and recipients of the Fulbright fellowship for postgraduate studies: Barbara Benish (US), Petr Stanicky (CZ) and Petra Valentova (CZ).
Fulbright commission is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. The Fulbright commission was established in the US in 1946, and in 1991 the Komise J.W. Williama Fulbrighta was created by an agreement between the United States and Czechoslovakia.
Thanks to this prestigious fellowship, these three artists were exposed to a different culture and distant society for an extended period of time. They each experienced relocation and displacement to some extent, and had to face unexpected challenges. As visual artists, they took these challenges as an opportunity to create new artwork, part of which will be exhibited in CCNY.
