The Experiment Bucuresti (Bucharest Experimentul)

This movie screening is a part of a program of Panorama Europe film festival of new european films. Known as Disappearing Act for its first five years, the newly re-named festival continues the mission of showcasing vital European filmmaking as distribution remains challenging for foreign language films in the United States. Panorama Europe gives New York audiences access to what may be their only chance to see these acclaimed films from the festival circuit on the big screen or at all. This year’s festival will take place at Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria and at the Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan. It was programmed by David Schwartz, Chief Curator at Museum of the Moving Image.

Presented by the Romanian Film Initiative

Romania. Dir. Tom Wilson. 2013, 68 mins. Digital projection. With Carmen Anton, Andrei Juvina. Director Tom Wilson daringly unearths the realstory of the 1989 revolution in Romania, exposing a disquieting alternative history of secret psychological engineering—the only trouble is, where does fact end and fiction begin? Playing a beguiling game of cat and mouse with the audience, Wilson pitches this fascinating experimental documentary in a gray zone somewhere between urgent exposé and sly mockumentary, without tipping his hand as to which it actually is until the final exhilarating minutes. Preceded by the director’s debut short Before the Fall (2011).

Tickets: $12 public / free for Museum members. Order online or call 718 777 6800 to reserve tickets. For more information on membership and to join online, visit our membership page.
