The Swell Season
FILM. Seventh Art Releasing is pleased to present the U.S. theatrical premiere of The Swell Season, which reunites performers Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, Academy Award-winners for their musical collaboration in the hit film Once.
Directed by Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins, and Carlo Mirabella-Davis, opening
night of Silverdocs Documentary Festival and an official selection of Tribeca
Film Festival, The Swell Season opens October 7th in Los Angeles (Downtown
Independent) and Oct. 21st in New York (Cinema Village: http://www.cinemavillage.com and reRun Gastropub Theater: http://reruntheater.com/) with a national release to follow.
After captivating audiences with Once, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová's fictional romance blurred with reality, they fell in love, recorded an album, and embarked on a world tour. Fueled by two years of exhilaration, performance, and psychological turmoil, The Swell Season is much more than a music documentary. It is a volatile and intimate portrait of a romance that fractures in the face of life on the road and personal tragedy. As Glen and Markéta's relationship unhinges, ultimately music prevails as their enduring connection. With incredible performances from around the world and an intimate seat on Glen and Markéta's tour, The Swell Season will resonate with film fans and music fans alike. "The beauty and energy of the music alone are worth the price of admission, but it's the way the filmmakers have so deftly captured the raw and honest intimacy of Hansard and Irglová's personal and artistic collaboration that make The Swell Season worth watching" writes the Christian Science Monitor.
Glen and Markéta are both touring separately this fall, Markéta in support of her first solo album (Anar, release date Oct. 11). Once, with music by Glen and Markéta will premiere as a play this fall (opens Nov. 15) at off-Broadway's prestigious New York Theatre Workshop.
