Urbanscapes

Urbanscapes brings together the work of six New York artists who reflect on the urban environment they call home. This exhibition will highlight the metropolis as a vast and exciting visual landscape in addition to the economic and cultural center we take for granted.

While each artist in the exhibition utilizes a unique practice in making their work, they all share a common ability to absorb and visualize the environment around them.

OPENING RECEPTION:
July 28, 6 – 8 PM
300 Madison Avenue, NYC

Isidro Blasco and Amanda Mathis create freestanding photo-montages combining two and three dimensions into a unified whole. Josh Marks wittingly uses scale and humor in his model-like landscape sculptures, while Ian Jones takes everyday architectural forms and morphs them into empathetic abstract shapes. Pedro Cruz Castro refigures and collages furniture making them recognizable and dreamlike at the same time. Erin Sweeny absorbs herself in studying the environment around her, using the minutest details to reflect back at us a world to ponder. Get a first look at all the pieces at 300 Madison Avenue. Urbanscapes will then tour to 245 Park Avenue and One Liberty Plaza.
