PERFORMING ARTS: VALENTINE'S DAY VARIETY SHOW

Book Report is a book club that celebrates absurdity and comedy in literature through stand-up, improvisation, music, and raunchy burlesque performance presents Milan Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

Jess Clark and Christie Donato are producing this book club/variety show with the help of our Public Relations Manager, Al Guillen, and Musical Director, Scott Mangan.  Each month they choose a book, and tailor the show around the themes and general feel of that book. In December they chose A Christmas Carol and performed it at the PIT Loft with costumes, lighting, sound, and a large ensemble. In January they chose Bridget Jones's Diary, and this show was performed at Pisticci (an Italian restaurant in Morningside Heights) in their Wine Cellar. Book Report is unique in that they’re able to constantly reinvent it depending on the book/month.

The show itself is a comedy variety show. After the performance they leave some for a meaningful discussion of the book with the audience. It has a very down-to-earth feel, and the show is also intimate and cozy. It tends to get a little raunchy!
