Washington Musica Viva presents a program of music by Jaroslav Jezek, Viktor Kalabis, and Bohuslav Martinu. Jezek’s famous “V+W” (Voskovec & Werich) cabaret songs (in English) created for a singer and an eight piece jazz band comprise of five songs including Life’s a Chance, Clothes Make the Man, and Water Tragedy, in contemporary arrangements by Maurice Saylor. Plus new arrangements of Jezek’s Bugatti Step, Great Great Grandma, and Dark Blue World by Charley Gerard.

Also on the program: The US premiere of Viktor Kalabis’ Sonata for Viola and Piano, and his “Ludus/per 4/” for a piano quartet, as well as the Allegretto from Bohuslav Martinu’s First Piano Quartet. This program is made possible in part by a grant from the Viktor Kalabis and Zuzana Rusickova Foundation.
